Effects of Smokers¡¯ Experiences of COVID-19 on Smoking: A Mixed Study

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out what kind of change there was in smoking in relation to COVID-19 infection among college students who smoked, and to use it for the anti-smoking project among college students. The study subjects were smokers, had experience of being infected with COVID-19, 15 people in 4 groups for FGI and 82 people for quantitative analysis. For data collection, FGI data were collected from October 11 to November 18, 2022, and quantitative data were collected using Google questionnaires from December 7 to 10, 2022. As a result of the quantitative analysis, there was a differences in the amount of smoking in the type of cigarette during quarantine. And after isolation, there was a difference in the number of cigarettes. As a result of the qualitative analysis, the amount of smoking decreased when the participants had symptoms, sensory changes, and family interest during quarantine, and when there were sequelae of COVID-19, parental interest, and health concerns after quarantine. In conclusion, the anti-smoking project should include awareness of e-cigarette use, programs to reduce the number of cigarettes used, and encouragement to continue trying to quit even if smoking cessation fails.
